My name is Julia Rita, and I’m a Canadian sing-songwriter raised in Ottawa. My music blends elements of country, folk, soft rock, and pop, and it tends to shift with the different phases of my life and the stories I’m telling. But one thing stays consistent—I’ve always loved a natural sound with true instruments, and I’ll always appreciate a good guitar solo.
A love for music has always run strong in my family. My grandmother passed away long before I was born, but she had a deep love for music and worked as a music teacher at her school. She passed that passion on to my mother, who went on to release a few CDs—mostly love songs for my father. Since birth, I’ve had a strong connection to music. Even before I could walk or talk, I would hum along to songs playing on the radio or in stores.
At 14, I started teaching music lessons and playing at restaurants, bars, and events. Around the same time, I discovered songwriting as a way to express my emotions and make sense of what was going on in my life. I eventually began working with John Sicard, who recorded and produced countless songs about navigating heartbreak and hope.
After years of writing, recording, and growing, we’ve selected six deeply personal songs for my first EP. I couldn’t be more excited to finally share this music with you.
